Compliance-Ready Solutions

Designed for Long-Term Use

What exactly are you bunding?

On most sites, bunding starts with a simple question: are you trying to contain leaks from a specific container, or stop liquid travelling across an area (like a doorway, walkway, or production zone)?

Choose the scenario that matches your setup and we'll point you to the best-fit solution.

Bunding for Containers (IBCs, Drums, Tanks & Equipment)

If your chemical is stored in a drum, IBC, tank, or on-site equipment, your priority is usually to capture leaks at the source - right underneath the container - before they reach floors, drains, or high-traffic areas.

IBC Bunded Pallet

Designed for permanent secondary containment under IBCs in fixed locations, these bunds are manufactured from UV-stable HDPE - a rigid, non-porous plastic built for long-term industrial use. They are ideal for storing acids, alkalis, bleach, hydraulic oils and diesel, providing strong day-to-day containment under the IBC footprint. Best suited for general industrial chemicals; solvent-heavy or highly oxidising liquids should always be checked for compatibility.

Drum Bunded Pallet

Designed for reliable containment under standard drum footprints in warehouses and storage areas, these bunds are also constructed from UV-stable HDPE, offering durable, impact-resistant and corrosion-resistant performance. Suitable for common site chemicals, corrosives, cleaning agents and oils, they provide stable long-term protection beneath drums. As with all rigid bunding, aggressive solvents and strong oxidisers require confirmation before use.

Collapsible Bund

Designed for portable and temporary containment, collapsible bunds are used during maintenance, shutdowns, field operations and emergency response. They are manufactured in three material options: Heavy-duty PVC, Elvaloy/EIA fabric, and Polypropylene. PVC is suited for general site liquids and washdown areas, Elvaloy is preferred for diesel, petrol and hydrocarbon exposure, while Polypropylene is selected when handling strong acids or alkalis. Material choice depends on the chemical, its concentration, and expected contact time.

Spill Bund

Designed to control liquid spread across floors, doorways and around equipment, low-profile spill bunds create flexible containment zones on sealed surfaces. Manufactured from heavy-duty UV-stable PVC, they are suited for water-based liquids, washdown areas and general industrial spills. For fuel-heavy or aggressive chemical environments, upgraded fabric options may be recommended. Lightweight and adaptable, they are ideal for managing spill pathways rather than long-term immersion.

Bunding for Areas (Doorways, Walkways & Spill Pathways)

If your biggest risk is liquid travelling across the floor - towards an entrance, into an external area, or toward drainage - floor bunding is usually the most direct solution.

Because every site is different, floor bunding also isn't "one size fits all". Traffic levels, surface conditions, and the type of liquids you handle all matter - that's why our range includes several material options.

Urethane Bunding

Urethane Floor Bunding is a great all-rounder for busy indoor areas where you want a low profile barrier that still handles day-to-day movement (including forklifts) and frequent use.

Rubber Bunding

Rubber Floor Bunding suits sites that need something tough and forgiving - especially where floors aren't perfectly even, there's regular washdown, or you want extra impact absorption.

Aluminium Bunding

Aluminium Floor Bunding is the pick for high-traffic areas and more demanding environments - ideal where you expect frequent vehicle crossings and want a long-lasting barrier.

PVC Flexible Bunding

PVC Flexible Drive-Over Floor Bunding is built for when you need a drive-over solution with higher containment - perfect for entrances, thresholds, and zones where vehicles must cross.

Not sure which bunding is right for your site?

Choosing the right bunding isn't about guessing. It depends on the chemical, container size, total volume, exposure conditions, and whether the area is indoors or outdoors. If you're unsure, our team can help you confirm the safest, most compliant setup before you buy.

Things You Should Know Before Buying Bunding

Before you choose a bund, take a minute to sanity-check the fundamentals. Most spill-containment problems happen because capacity was miscalculated, rainwater wasn't accounted for, or the setup didn't meet basic secondary containment expectations.

Capacity

Bunding Capacity & Sizing (How to Calculate It)

Start with volume — not the footprint. A bund is only as good as the amount it can hold before anything escapes containment.

The most common approach:

Size the bund to hold at least 110% of the largest single container, or 25% of the total volume stored — whichever is greater.

Two sizing mistakes we see all the time:

People size only to "what I have today" - then add more containers later.
They forget that internal volume is reduced by ribs, sumps, and displaced volume (the container takes up space).

Practical tip: If the bund will hold multiple containers, aim for a bit of headroom so you're not operating at the absolute limit — especially if you're working with liquids that spread quickly.

Rainwater

Outdoor Bunding (Rainwater Changes Your Usable Capacity)

Outdoor bunding isn't just indoor bunding placed outside. The moment rain gets involved, your bund's "usable capacity" can drop fast.

Here's the key concept:

A bund may have a theoretical volume (to the top edge), but your usable capacity is what's left after rainwater and operational freeboard.

What sites typically do:

Ensure a way to remove rainwater safely (without discharging contaminants).
Keep bunded areas monitored so water doesn't accumulate unnoticed.
Design with enough freeboard so you're not relying on "perfect conditions".

SDS Matters

Chemical Class vs Compatibility (Why SDS Still Matters)

A lot of people assume a chemical's "class" tells them what material they need. In practice, classification describes the hazard, not how that chemical behaves with bunding materials.

That's why the SDS (Safety Data Sheet) matters — it contains the detail that decides compatibility, like:

Chemical name and concentration
Known incompatibilities
Handling and spill response guidance

Practical example:

"Flammable liquid" could mean petrol, ethanol, acetone, or a solvent blend — and those can behave very differently against flexible materials.

Practical tip: If you can tell us the chemical name (and ideally provide the SDS), we can help point you toward the safest material option for your use case.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Bunding isn't only for frequent spills — it's for when something goes wrong. Many sites install bunding to protect against low-probability, high-impact events that can cause environmental damage, clean-up costs, or compliance issues.

Requirements vary by state, industry, and chemical type, but secondary containment is a common expectation under environmental and workplace safety frameworks. Even when not explicitly mandated, bunding is often required to demonstrate due diligence during audits or inspections.

Sometimes — but not always. Compatibility depends on the most aggressive chemical, its concentration, and how long it may contact the bund. When multiple chemicals are involved, we recommend checking the SDS for each and confirming material suitability before purchasing.

Outdoor bunds must allow for reduced usable capacity due to rainfall. This is a common reason sites fail compliance checks. Solutions include oversizing the bund, adding covers, or implementing controlled drainage — which we can help you assess.

Yes — depending on the product. Portable and collapsible bunds are designed for flexibility, temporary work zones, and changing layouts. Rigid bunded pallets are better suited to fixed storage areas.

Regular visual checks are key. Look for cracks, deformation, UV degradation, chemical attack, or compromised seals. Any sign that a bund may no longer be impermeable means it should be reviewed or replaced.

Primarily, yes — but bunding is also used to contain oily residues, coolants, fuels, washdown liquids, and process fluids. If it can flow and cause harm, it usually needs containment.

Absolutely. If you're unsure about material, size, or layout, our team can sanity-check your setup before you commit — helping you avoid under-sizing, compatibility issues, or compliance problems.
